ABOUT THE COMMON REVIEW
The Common Review is the magazine of the Great Books Foundation. The Great Books Foundation is dedicated to helping people think and share ideas by educating them to become participants in, leaders of, and advocates for Shared Inquiry™. Through text-based discussion, Shared Inquiry strengthens critical thinking and civil discourse, promotes reading and the appreciation of literature, and provides people of all ages with a powerful instrument for social engagement and lifelong learning.
Since its inception in 1947 by Robert Maynard Hutchins, then president of the University of Chicago, and philosopher Mortimer J. Adler, the Great Books Foundation has carried out the task of helping to build communities of reading citizens both young and old, who can carry on the "Great Conversation" based on some of the world's best writing.
The Common Review is also the gateway to Great Books Foundation publications, reading and discussions groups, and local and national events for readers and thinkers interested in fostering dialogue that matters.
The Common Review receives generous support from Harrison Middleton University.
